Kosovo's Albanians' enthusiasm for independence would have been considerably reduced without the Trepca mines.<br /><br />This ignores two realities: <br /><br />For one, the government in the Sudan is a terrorist regime enforcing "shariah" law, which makes anyone who is not a Muslim dead meat. The people of southern Sudan are thus to be raped and enslaved, and this happens. Because they are not Muslims. This is regardless of oil.<br /><br />The situation was similar in Kosovo. Kosovo was forcibly joined to Serbia earlier in the 20th century. The separation in 1999 was less a secession than it was a repulsion of Serbia's temporary occupation.
